About The Branch Desk Company
Greg Hayes, the CEO of Branch desks, started the company in 2018 after finding it frustrating to buy appropriate and fairly priced office furniture. He decided to eliminate the middle man which reduced the cost of high quality furniture for all businesses big and small.
He didn’t stop there though, in addition to quality furniture in various sizes and styles, he also made sure the furniture they created was ergonomic. Thus the line of ergonomic adjustable desks and chairs was born.
Assess Your Workspace Ergonomics
Take a minute and look over your workspace. Is it ergonomic or do you end most days with a sore back, neck or with a headache?
Here are a few things to look at:
Your Monitor Height
To test whether or not you monitor is at the optimal height follow these steps. First sit normally at your desk, the way you do everyday. Look straight ahead without looking up or down. Is the top 1/3 of your screen what you’re looking at? If so, great. That’s perfect. But, if you’re looking over the monitor you need to raise the monitor up. If you have to bend your head because you’re looking down at the monitor you can try lowering your chair.
Your Chair
When sitting in your chair your feet should be flat on the ground and your back and shoulders should be in contact with the back of the chair. The chair arms should be at the same height as your elbows. There should be a 2″ gap between the back of your knees and the chair seat.
Your Eyes
Eyestrain is a side effect of spending a lot of time on a computer. To lessen the impact on your eyes do this: every 20 minutes look at something that is at least 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds. It’s called the 20/20/20 rule and it can help prevent eye strain and headaches.
Your Stand Up Desk
And last, make sure you take full advantage of your new stand up desk. Remember, and you can set reminders on your desk, to stand 15-30 minutes every 60 minutes throughout your day. That however, isn’t all. Try to take a walk on your breaks or just walk up and down a staircase for 15 minutes or more throughout your day.
