The Wolf Gourmet Programmable Coffee System is pricier than it’s competitors, and in our review we’ll let you know what features it has to justify that price tag. Also, we’ll point out the pros and cons of this coffee maker.

High Quality Features

Wolf Gourmet has long been the leader in outstanding restaurant grade luxury kitchen appliances for over 20 years. And the Wolf coffeemaker lives up to this reputation. The coffee maker has a great looking, sleek, stainless steel exterior. It definitely looks high end and professional.

This coffee maker isn’t for every kitchen though, it is expensive and it is rather large. It weighs 13 lbs. so it is well built and solid but since most people don’t move their coffee maker from one spot to another, weight probably isn’t much of a concern.

The stainless exterior, large red knobs and LCD programmable screen all lend to great functionality and a luxury feel to this coffee maker.

Great Coffee Every Time

The Wolf programmable coffee maker is built not only to look great in your kitchen but to brew outstanding coffee every single cup. It has a built in coffee grounds scale so you add the perfect amount of grounds for a great cup of coffee no matter what strength you prefer.

To make a great cup of coffee you need the perfect mix of temperature, time and extraction method which are all easy to program on the Wolf coffeemaker.

With such a great looking exterior it’s easy to overlook the interior features that make great coffee possible. But with it’s shower head that has been engineered to meet the most stringent extraction standards and a well tuned heating element, great coffee is a certainty every cup.

Features

Accu-Brew Technology

The Accu-Brew setting makes it easy for you to create a perfect ratio between coffee and water for a perfect cup every time. The owners manual will walk you through the whole process. Once you’ve got it down, you can be sure of the same exact brew from one cup of coffee to the next. The built in scale ensures you add the perfect amount of grounds to the front loading brew basket. The LCD display will show you when you’re added the proper amount of grounds.

Controls

The big red knobs are both iconic and user friendly. Clearly labeled and intuitive the knobs make operating the coffee machine easy, right from the start. Multiple modes like Clean, Manual and AccuBrew will help you quickly choose the right function.

Also, the top knob will control the strength of the brew and the bottom knob allows you to choose the number of cups of coffee.

The LCD screen will display volume settings and brew strength so you know just what you’re getting. In addition, directly under the LCD screen are 4 additional buttons – power, clock, programming and a reset button that will reset the scale to zero.

AccuBrew and Brew Strength Settings

One of the best features of the Wolf coffee maker is the AccuBrew technology. This feature is unique to Wolf coffee makers and it is one of the features that really sets this coffee maker apart from it’s competitors. All you need to do is to set the brew strength and how many cups you want to brew and the Wolf handles everything else. It has a built in scale which will tell you exactly how much coffee to add. The display will flash if you add too much coffee or just let you know when you need to add more coffee.

What you want, and what the Wolf gives you, is a perfect ratio of water to coffee for the strength and number of cups you want. Getting this ratio correct will ensure the perfect cup of coffee every time. Just follow the owners manual for the first few pots, it’s not hard, and when you get it dialed in, you’re good to go!

Timer

Using the timer allows you to schedule your coffee with the preferred brew strength. You can also see how long since the last cycle. Being able to schedule your coffee makes it easy, particularly in larger households where there are multiple coffee drinkers, everyone can have their own coffee with the best setting for them whenever they want.

10 Cup Capacity Thermal Carafe

A 10 cup capacity thermal carafe has double wall construction so it keeps the coffee at the perfect temperature… no need for a warm up. And, it’s much more durable than glass.

Easy To Access Brew Basket

This coffeemaker can brew up to 10 cups in under 7 minutes. Designed to optimize coffee flavor with it’s innovative water distribution system which allows for better extraction and it’s easy to use, and clean, front loading brew basket, this coffee maker will be a dependable, and delicious addition to your kitchen.

Brew Cycles

No matter what brew cycle you choose, manual or AccueBrew, the Wolf coffee machine ensures every cup is delicious and it all begins with the extraction process. By using the best brew temperature every time you make a pot of coffee, you get consistently perfect coffee from one pot to the next. A full 10 cup pot of perfectly brewed coffee is ready in under 7 minutes.

The water is sprayed over the coffee grounds in a way that allows for even distribution for better extraction and better tasting coffee from one pot to the next.

Water Reservoir

A removable water reservoir with a handle is easy to fill. It holds 50 oz. of water which means you won’t have to fill it as often. It also has a water filter ensuring that the coffee will taste great every time.

A top shelf coffee maker should come with a top shelf warranty, and this one does. The Wolf coffee maker comes with a 5 year limited warranty.

Warranty

Most of the coffee makers on the market carry a one, maybe two year limited warranty. That’s why the Wolf coffeemakers warranty is so impressive, Wolf is a gourmet brand so you would expect them to stand behind their products… and they do. The warranty is 5 year limited warranty, just what you’d expect from a luxury brand like Wolf.

Brewing Features

Like most other brands, the Wolf coffeemaker allows for adjustable brew strength settings. You can choose from mild to bold with a few options in between the two extremes. The top red knob is used for selecting the brew settings and when you choose an option this settings will be displayed on the LCD screen.

Some users thought there should be a larger array of brewing options for such an expensive machine. This may not be a big issue for you depending on your tastes. Most people tend to select the setting they like and leave it there. If, however, you enjoy experimenting and trying a lot of different settings this may be a limitation to keep in mind.

Using the Wolf Coffee Maker

Easy to use, but it may be a different experience than what you’re used to and it may take a minute to acquaint yourself with the AccuBrew features. The first step is to install the water filter. You have to soak the filter in water for 15 minutes than put it in the housing for the filter. Then, just add fresh water to the reservoir.

Next, select the mode you want Manual or AccuBrew and choose the number of cups you want to brew. With the AccuBrew setting you will also need to choose whatever brew strength you want and zero out the scale by pushing the reset button. The LCD screen will then let you know whether you need to add more grounds or if you have too many.

With the manual mode you don’t use the scale so that last part won’t apply to you. After you’ve put in the grounds all you do is push the start button and wait.

Cleaning

The great thing about this Wolf coffee maker is that it is designed to be easy to take care of, which is great since I know I have better things to do! It’s not that different from other coffee makers, the first thing you’ll do is clean both the water reservoir and brew basket regularly. You will be reminded to change the water after you’ve gone through thirty brew cycles.

Descaling is a hassle but the good news is you only have to do it once every 300 brew cycles. A mix of white vinegar and water works well. Hand wash the carafe after each pot of coffee.

That’s about it. Pretty simple maintenance.

PROS

CONS

  • Looks great, luxury

  • Easy to use

  • Large capacity

  • Carafe heavy to pour when full

  • No hot plate

Compare to Other Top Rated Coffee Makers

The Wolf coffeemaker comes from a company known for it’s quality luxury kitchen appliances, large and small. Wolf makes great appliances, including their coffee maker, but this coffee maker isn’t the right fit for everyone.

Wolf Coffee Maker vs. The Breville Precision Brewer Coffee Maker

The Breville coffee maker is another elite counter top coffee maker that has over 2,400 4.4 star reviews online. The Breville is high quality and a little less expensive than the Wolf. Breville has a much larger water reservoir, 60 oz.. It also offers more programmed brewing options than the Wolf with 6: Gold, Fast, Strong, Iced, Cold Brew and the customizable My Brew mode.

Breville has their Thermo Coil heating system for pure water that is superior to aluminum brewing systems.

The Gold mode automatically adjusts brew time and water temperature to SCA approved standards for a superior cup of coffee.

The automatic Steep and Release function (patent pending) keeps water in contact with coffee when brewing small cups. The My Brew setting gives you the option to customize settings like brew temperature, bloom time, and flow rate so you can adjust to whatever type of coffee you’re brewing for optimum taste.

Wolf vs. Moccamaster 53934 KBGV

I admit I love the look of stainless, but I like colors even more. And this coffeemaker has 23 color options as well as an online rating of 2,524 4.6 star ratings. Not too shabby. It’s the smallest capacity of the 3 coffeemakers we review in this article with only 40 oz.

The Moccamaster can brew a full carafe, 40 oz. in under 6 minutes with the push of a button. It will automatically shut off after 1 hour and 40 minutes for safety. It’s quiet and comes with a 5 year limited warranty, like the Wolf.

It automatically stops dripping when you take away the carafe, which can eliminate messes. You can increase or decrease the hotplate temperature. The temperature ranges from 175 degrees F to 185 degrees F. Use the lower temperature for times when you only have a half carafe, and higher temperatures when the carafe is full.

Whether you want to brew a full or half carafe, you do so effortlessly and perfectly with a simple flip of the switch.

FAQ’s

Where are Wolf coffee makers made?

Wolf makes their coffee makers in the USA.

Does the Wolf coffee maker have a built in grinder?

No, you have to use your own grinder. it does, however come with a built-in scale so you add the perfect amount of grounds and achieve the perfect water/ grounds ratio for a great cup every time.

How to use a Wolf coffee maker?

Honestly, it’s really easy – add water, coffee grounds, choose your desired strength and go.

What Features You Can Expect In Gourmet Coffee Makers?

The coffee makers we’ve reviewed here in this article are all “elite” level coffee makers. And yes, that means they are all fairly expensive. Here are the most common features you will want to consider before making your choice. As with all products, some features are more important to you than others. Hopefully, the information in this review will help you make the best decision as to whether or not the Wolf Coffee maker is right for you. If not, maybe one of the other models we reviewed is a better option.

Cup and Water Reservoir Capacity

You’ll generally get between 10 – 14 cups of coffee in a drip coffee maker and the water reservoir can hold between 40 oz. to 60 oz..

Type of Carafe

Most coffee makers come with a glass carafe. Both the Wolf and the Breville we reviewed here come with insulated stainless steel carafes. The insulated carafe is a better choice, in our opinion, since it keeps coffee hot longer and it’s not as easy to break. The down side to some thermal carafes is that with the insulated sides you may lose a little capacity.

Brew Options

Some coffee makers have a lot of options when it comes to programmed brewing options. This may or may not be an issue to you. Most people find their perfect brew and stick with it. But, if you enjoy experimenting you may like to have more options. The ability to control the bloom time of the grounds for the best extraction allows you to have more control over your brew.

Built-In Grinders

For the freshest taste, many people enjoy grinding their own coffee right before brewing. Non of the coffee makers we’ve reviewed here have built in grinders, though the Wolf does have a built-in scale for precise coffee measurement. The good thing about a built in grinder is that you don’t have to buy, or find room for, a separate grinder. The bad thing about it is that it will make the coffeemaker bigger and will take up more room on your countertop. It will also add to the overall price of a coffeemaker.

The Wolf Company

Westyfe F. Bakke started the Sub-Zero Freezer company in August of 1945 in Madison, Wi. The company bought the appliance line from Wolf Range Corporation in 2000. At that time, Wolf made professional cooktops, ranges, and grills for commercial and residential use.

Wolf prides itself on innovation and great design. The family owned and operated company allows for higher quality standards. Always improving the style and function of all their products Wolf has become synonymous with luxury and quality appliances, big and small,, for the most discerning home chef.

Wolf Coffee Maker Review – The Bottom Line

The Wolf coffeemaker, like the entire Wolf line of products, is definitely a luxury item both in terms of price and features. The attention to detail and the durability make it a great addition to the kitchen of any foodie. With it’s large 50 oz. capacity, water filter for great tasting coffee, the reusable coffee filter for convenience and the insulated stainless steel carafe that offers great looks, durability and the ability to keep your coffee warm, this machine has some very high end, well thought out features.

The only real drawback is the price. But my guess is that since you’re reading this article you already know it’s an expensive machine and you just wanted to ensure it’s worth the price. I believe, for some people, it is definitely worth the price and will elevate any kitchen lucky enough to include it.
